Artist Statement for Dorothy McCray
To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.
                                   Wm. Blake, Auguries of Innocence

Art is the spirit of life. Art is an imitation of reality. Art is the expression of the
astonishment
of moment by moment experience of being.
All of life is a creative act, the act of organizing and manipulating experienced
phenomena to form a meaningful whole. The visual arts are one manifestation
of this need of man for the integration attained through the creative process.
The evolution of my artwork involves a leap into the unknown. It consists
of elements of play, discovery and awe.  I am intrigued by the multiplicity of sensation,
visual and conceptual, which one experiences through life. My concern is to organize
and reinterpret these experiences so that my work will be evocative of memories
and enrichment of meaning for others.
