Pancho Villa,

(José Doroteo Arango Arámbula)
(1878 – 1923)
x
One of the most prominent Mexican Revolutionary Generals.
x
V
illa and his supporters, known as Villistas, seized hacienda
 land for
distribution to peasants and soldiers. He robbed and
commandeered trains,
and, like the other revolutionary
generals, printed fiat money to pay for his cause.

x
It was from Palomas, Mexico that he launched his attack
 on Columbus,
New Mexico in 1916.  After Villa’s raid on
Columbus, General John J. Pershing,
tried unsuccessfully
to capture Villa in a year-long pursuit.

xj
After the revolution ended in 1920, Villa was given an hacienda

outside of Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua by the national government.
x
In 1923, he decided to re-involve himself in Mexican politics

and as a result was assassinated.  Villa was buried
 in the city cemetery
of Parral, Chihuahua.
Palomas   The artist's image was inspired by the bronze sculpture of Villa by Ricardo Ponzanelli, that can be seen in Palomas, Mexico

Pinto Pardners

The title of the painting "Pinto Pardners" is a double entendre
 since the
steers are  spotted pintos and are depicted in Pinto Creek
near Del Rio, Texas.  Spots on a longhorn steer are like human
 fingerprints. These
steers were painted from
 some I saw in Texas.
